Position: Intern: Product Incubator Team

About Frontier Markets: Frontier Markets is a sales, marketing and service distribution company with a mission to reach Base of the Pyramid (BOP) households in emerging markets. Frontier Markets works with local partner channels like microfinance institutions and locally trained field staff to educate, relate and reach households providing them access to high social impact and affordable products as well as customer service. Frontier Markets is currently operating in rural Rajasthan where we have reached 40,000 households. Frontier Markets’ mission is to provide over 10 million products to 30 million households in India by 2016, and become a global leader in rural distribution and products for BOP households.
Role: The Product Incubator is select unit that performs research, testing and customer feedback on cutting edge social consumer durables. Frontier Markets seeks two (2) interns, one with marketing focus, one with electrical engineering focus, to help vet, test and gather data to make decisions on product adoption.
Responsibilities:
- Support the research, due diligence, short listing and field-testing of new products for low income households
- Make recommendations based on product and manufacturer criteria for prioritizing products
- Marketing: work with senior executives on marketing and demand features of new products
- Engineering: work with senior executives to calibrate the technical specifications and quality of design and manufacturing of prioritized products.
Field Level Responsibilities
- Make field visits with FM executives and field team on PRN basis to gather Incubator related data (customer insights, product performance and other field level requirements)
Administrative Responsibilities
- Follow FM methodology for research, project management and reporting structures and protocols.
Other Responsibilities
- As assigned by senior management on an as needed basis for the scoped project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Rural marketing experience and focus is required for marketing intern
- Electrical engineering background is required for technical analysis for engineering intern
- Both interns are required to be able to perform quality due diligence, research and analysis of findings
- Analytical skills, MS office and fluency in English and Hindi are a must.
